Maserati's Electric Evolution: Farewell to the Iconic V8

At the fifth Motor Valley Fest in Modena, Maserati announced the legendary 572bhp 90 Twin Turbo V8 engine's retirement. This engine, a heart for Levante, Ghibli, and Quattroporte in their Trofeo versions, will officially stop production at the Maserati factory in late 2023.

The V8-engined cars will continue to be sold into 2024 and are expected to become coveted collector’s items. The Maserati GranTurismo Folgore, the brand's first 100% electric car, and Grecale Folgore – the first all-electric SUV – are to spearhead this transition.

The company has set a goal to offer an electric variant for every model in its range by 2025, aiming to be fully electric by 2030. Since 1959, when the Maserati 5000GT was introduced as the first car equipped with the potent V8, more than 100,000 units featuring an eight-cylinder engine have been produced and sold. The latest versions, Maserati Trofeo, Ghibli 334 Ultima, and Levante V8 Ultima, will be revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2023.

During the four-day Motor Valley Fest, Maserati's masterpieces will dominate Modena's every corner, exhibited at the city's iconic locations. In Piazza Grande, the complete Maserati Folgore lineup will be displayed for the first time. The GranTurismo Folgore One Off Luce and Grecale Folgore will share the spotlight with the futuristic Gen3 Maserati Tipo Folgore, the brand's single-seater contender in this year's ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
